Fans are wondering which of David Lynch‘s canceled shows like Unrecorded Night and Snootworld could return. They are also eager to learn about the chances of a Twin Peaks Season 4 happening. Lynch, a notable filmmaker known for projects like 1984’s Dune and Mulholland Drive, recently made headlines after revealing his recent emphysema diagnosis and that he would not retire despite the disease.
So, can David Lynch’s Unrecorded Night and Snootworld still happen? Why were they canceled? Will Twin Peaks Season 4 become a reality? Here are the answers to all your queries.
Could David Lynch’s Unrecorded Night and Snootworld still come out?
It is currently unknown whether Unrecorded Night and Snootworld will come out. However, Snootworld could happen if Lynch manages to find someone who can fund the project. Similarly, it appears Unrecorded Night could also happen if Lynch and his team decide to work on the project.
In an April 2024 interview with Deadline, David Lynch, who had commenced work on Snootworld’s script 20 years ago with Caroline Thompson, revealed he had presented his pitch for Snootworld to Netflix, only for it to get rejected.
However, the Mulholland Drive director opined that there was potential in the movie. He said, “I like this story. It’s something that children and adults can both appreciate…I’ve never really done a straight animation but with computers today it’s possible to do some spectacular things.”
Later in a Q&A session on David Lynch’s fan site Tulpa Forum, Sabrina Sutherland, his longtime producer, also expressed her hopes that Snootworld’s development and release could come to fruition.
As for Unrecorded Night, Sabrina Sutherland mentioned that despite its cancelation, there was a chance that the series could still happen. However, Sutherland revealed that they have not yet gone back to working on it since David Lynch has lately been engrossed in his artwork and music ventures.
Why did Netflix cancel Unrecorded Night and Snootworld?
Netflix canceled Unrecorded Night because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Snootworld got rejected by Netflix, but they have not revealed an official reason for it. However, as reported by Deadline, Lynch believed Netflix rejected it likely because it was an old-fashioned fairytale, which Lynch opined was “considered groaners.”
Is Twin Peaks Season 4 possible?
The future of Twin Peaks Season 4 remains uncertain as of now, but Sabrina Sutherland revealed that David Lynch has ideas for another season, suggesting it could happen. However, she further said she doesn’t know about series co-creator Mark Frost’s thoughts on it.
Back in a 2017 interview with IndieWire, Frost revealed that he was considering making a fourth season, which Showtime was also looking into. However, as per CBR, he revealed recently that there were no plans to pursue a fourth season.
So, it seems the future of Season 4 is hanging in the balance and could go either way.
