Netflix has finally unveiled the teaser trailer for Sakamoto Days, revealing the release date window for the highly anticipated anime adaptation of the hit manga written and illustrated by Yuto Suzuki.
Sakamoto Days centers on Taro Sakamoto, the title assassin, who is feared by bad guys and revered by his fellow assassins. Now, his hitman days are long over after he retires to marry the woman he loves, which causes him to gain extreme weight, though he still possesses unparalleled strength and ability.
“Sakamoto Days follows legendary ex-hitman Taro Sakamoto as he bands with comrades to face off against the looming thread of assassins to ensure a peaceful life with his beloved family,” the logline for the anime reads.
When is the Sakamoto Days anime release date window?
In the teaser trailer, Taro Sakamoto is described as “the ultimate hitman” who let himself go and gained weight due to being preoccupied with being both a husband and a father. But while he has already given up his life of crime to work as a convenience store clerk, he is still armed with an extreme ability. The teaser trailer’s last moments revealed that the anime will arrive on Netflix in January 2025.
“I want to express my gratitude to the fans, whose support made all of this possible,” Suzuki said (via Tudum). “I hope you will continue to join me in building up Sakamoto Days! Please enjoy the show!”
Sakamoto Days is directed by Masaki Watanabe, who intends to capture the whole essence of the manga series. Watanabe told Tudum:
“Keeping that feeling at the heart of production, I want to take all the components unique to the screen — movement, color, and sound — to make Sakamoto Days a dynamic and fast-paced anime, while keeping in mind the humor sprinkled throughout the original. We intend to faithfully portray the character of Sakamoto, the family man and the killer who doesn’t kill.”
Sakamoto Days premieres on Netflix in January 2025, with the remaining episodes releasing weekly.
