The movie-going experience has evolved ever since the introduction of sound films in the 1920s. Immersive experiences like 3D and IMAX showings really help make a movie all the more memorable. With 4DX movies trending, films like Twisters saw a huge rise in ticket sales. Due to high popular demand, Regal announces that Twisters 4DX will be returning to theaters soon.
In 4DX, audiences experience motion seats, scents, wind, strobe lights, and even simulated snow all timed to the movie’s events. Seeing Twisters in this immersive format has gone viral, with fans posting video reactions of before and after seeing the disaster flick. Bummed fans who missed Twisters 4DX after its one-week window received good news from Regal. The theater chain announced on X that the Glen Powell-led movie will return to theaters in 4DX very soon:
Based on all of the tweets fans sent to Regal, it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise that popular demand is bringing back the viral movie-going experience. Twisters already conjured up a mighty storm at the box office grossing $220.9 million. You can thank the 4DX experience for contributing to that as Variety reports ticket sales for that unique format were roughly $2.1 million. That’s 30% higher than Super Mario Bros. Movie‘s 4DX opening weekend record holder at $1.57 million. Like Glen Powell’s character, Tyler, says in the movie, “If you can feel it…chase it!”
What is the Twisters 4DX experience like?
The 4DX experience of Twisters would be impossible to create at home. It almost feels like a rollercoaster as the seats shake, rumble, and vibrate. Without a doubt, you can feel like a character in extremely bad weather as strobe lights, fog, and water squirt at you to fit in with the timing of the movie. Audiences can experience what the storm chasers in the box office hit are going through being inside of a tornado. CEO of Regal Cinemas, Eduardo Acuna, told Variety he highly recommends moviegoers take advantage of Twister’s unique 4DX format:
“There’s no better movie for this format. It’s like being on a theme park ride. You feel so immersed in the movie. You get moved emotionally and physically.”
There’s no word yet on when Twisters 4DX will come back to theaters. But, make sure to keep an eye on showtimes so you don’t miss when it hits your local 4DX theater soon.
