The Boys Season 4 finale has aired. Viewers want to know what Billy Butcher’s powers are and whether he is stronger than Homelander. It was hinted earlier in season 4 that Butcher had superpowers because he took Compound V, though the series didn’t provide any details at the time. In episode 8, just when the Boys and Victoria have come to an agreement, Butcher appears. He declares that there will be no deal before ripping Victoria in half with his powers.
Here is everything you need to know about Billy Butcher’s powers in The Boys Season 4 Episode 8 and whether he is more powerful than Homelander.
What are Billy Butcher’s powers in The Boys Season 4 Episode 8?
Billy Butcher likely has all the powers common among Supes. These include super strength, super speed, and super durability, though only the last has been confirmed. When he kills Victoria, the Secret Service Agent guarding her shoots him multiple times. However, the bullets have no effect on him.
Butcher also has tendrils that come out of his chest and rip apart a fairly durable Supe like Victoria with ease. Previously, the tendrils came out when Butcher lost consciousness during his fight with Ezekiel. However, he wasn’t able to control his powers at the time, but it seems that changed after Ryan killed Grace Mallory,
Alternatively, it’s possible that Butcher has given up on Ryan and let the Joe Kessler persona take control of his mind. The hallucinations of Kessler and Becca appear to be the result of a sentient tumor. This can also be considered a superpower, albeit a dubious one.
Has Butcher become more powerful than Homelander in The Boys?
While Billy Butcher is evidently quite powerful, it remains to be seen whether he is stronger than Homelander.
Although Butcher took out Victoria quite easily, it has to be noted here that he surprised her and covered her mouth and eyes. This likely limits her ability to use her powers. While Victoria’s powers seem to be quite effective as a defensive measure against Homelander’s heat vision, she probably couldn’t do anything to harm him. Otherwise, she would have done it already.
Homelander gains control of the US government in the season 4 finale. As such, a confrontation between him and this new superpowered Butcher is almost inevitable. Butcher has a limited amount of time left, and not just because of the tumor. In episode 5, Butcher spots a dead rabbit with tendrils coming out of it. It’s safe to assume that the scene was foreshadowing Butcher’s powers. If that is indeed the case, whatever is inside him will try to come out at some point as well.
