No, Jimmy Kimmel Wasn’t ‘Fired’ From His Late-Night Show: Rumors Explained

Fans are wondering if ABC has fired Jimmy Kimmel, following his extended absence from Jimmy Kimmel Live!. Numerous A-list celebrities are scheduled to host the titular show in the upcoming episodes. Naturally, the internet is curious to know if Kimmel will resume the show or called it quits.

So, let’s find out if Jimmy Kimmel did get fired from the show.

Did Jimmy Kimmel get fired from his late-night talk show?

The rumors are untrue as ABC Network didn’t fire Jimmy Kimmel.

The reason behind Kimmel’s absence from the show is that he is on a summer break. He is set to resume soon, till then several popular celebrities are lined up to host on his behalf.

This isn’t the first time Kimmel took a hiatus, as previously, he handed over his responsibilities to guest hosts in 2020 too. However, this time, his break reports went too far, with people speculating that he was fired from the show.

In a conversation with the LA Times earlier this year, Kimmel revealed that he has signed with the network for another two years. He said he thinks this ongoing agreement might be his “final contract,” hinting at his retirement. “I still have a little more than two years left on my contract, and that seems pretty good. That seems like enough,” he added.

However, he believes even after rethinking his retirement plans, he most probably resumes work after a hiatus or so. This indicates that there could be chances of him changing his mind about retiring.

The rumors about Kimmel being fired popped up last year too, following a cryptic segment on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. In the episode, his opening monologue mainly addressed the major network’s recent firings. He further elaborated that Fox News dismissed Tucker Carlson and CNN let go of Don Lemon on a similar day. He jokingly compared their firings to that of McDonald’s and Burger King. “This is like if Ronald McDonald and Burger King got fired on the same day,” he said.

Suddenly, Guillermo Rodriguez, a side personality, interrupted him, right after his monologue. He revealed that he has “breaking news” for him. During this very intense moment, he mentioned that the network has decided to split ways with Kimmel, following a 20-year journey. He added, “After 20 years on the air, ABC TV has decided to part ways with its host, Jimmy Kimmel. This was a mutual decision. We want to say thank you to Jimmy Kimmel and his many, many contributions.”

However, Rodriguez’s statement had no truth as the whole bit was scripted and was made to amuse the audience. Nonetheless, many took this bit seriously, and thus, the rumors spiraled out. According to The Wrap, Jimmy Kimmel Live! team had already debunked the rumors saying the firing reports were “merely a joke.”
