Agatha All Along Image Shows MCU’s Group of Covenless Witches

A new Agatha All Along image is out, previewing Kathryn Hahn’s titular witch and other witches that come together to form a new group.

The latest image comes from Empire Magazine, and sees Hahn’s Agatha opening a basement door while other witches — including Patti LuPone, Sasheer Zamata, Debra Jo Rupp, and Ali Ahn — watch from behind her.

Speaking to Empire, series creator Jac Schaeffer spoke about Agatha’s group of witches, which he calls mostly a “disparate mixed bag” of magic users that have no coven. “What they have in common is that they’re covenless witches,” Schaeffer said. “Witches are defined by deception, treachery, villainy and selfishness. What do you do when you have a group of witches who [demonstrate] those notions and you need them to work together?”

Schaeffer also teased what to expect from the upcoming series, noting that it would riff on various forms of classic TV sitcoms, while also retaining the emotion that was present in WandaVision.

“[Where] WandaVision played with the form of classic TV sitcoms, [here] we do a lot of playing with what the assumptions about witches are,” said Schaeffer. “Like, what are the shorthand visuals for witches? We certainly didn’t want a one-dimensional nasty witch. We will have moments where we see Agatha’s true heart.”

Who’s involved in Agatha All Along?

Agatha All Along hails from head writer and director Jac Schaeffer, who is also serving as an executive producer along with Kevin Feige. Joining Hahn are Emma Caulfield Ford and Debra Jo Rupp reprising their roles as Westview residents from WandaVision.

The series will also introduce a new batch of MCU newcomers, including Aubrey Plaza, Joe Locke, Ali Ahn, Maria Dizzia, Sasheer Zamata, and Patti LuPone, with Locke rumored to be the male lead and LuPone set to play Sicilian witch Lilia Calderu. LuPone also previously confirmed that the series will feature several musical numbers from Agatha All Along songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez.
