When will Anurag Kashyap’s web series Bad Cop be released?
The much-anticipated series Bad Cop will premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on June 21, 2024. This announcement has excited fans who are eager to see Anurag Kashyap take on a rare acting role. Known for his iconic directorial projects, Kashyap’s appearance in front of the camera is turning out to be a significant draw for fans.
Bad Cop offers a fresh take on the classic cop versus villain theme. The series centers around Karan and Arjun, twin brothers with starkly contrasting lives, played by Gulshan Devaiah. Karan is a dedicated and fearless police officer, while Arjun leads a life of crime as a thief. Their worlds collide unexpectedly, leading to a high-stakes game of cat and mouse.
On the other hand, Anurag Kashyap plays Kazbe Mama, a ruthless gangster who becomes a central figure in the brothers’ dramatic journey. The plot promises intense action sequences, clever dialogues, and a storyline filled with twists and turns. The series’ teaser has already generated significant buzz, showcasing dramatic confrontations and high-octane chases.
For those unaware, Bad Cop is adapted from the German show Bad Cop: Kriminell Gut (2017). It has been reimagined by writer Rensil D’Silva and directed by Aditya Datt. The latter has given a sneak peek at what to expect from the upcoming series.
“Bad Cop is like your original cult masala stories with a captivating storyline, a deadly villain, and your hero in a double role.” he quipped. Further adding, “It’s a hardcore classic cop vs villain chase, but with a fun twist that will leave you intrigued till the end. The series has high octane action, eccentric characters, and is a complete entertainer.”
The streaming giant will release a total of eight episodes on upcoming Friday.
Bad Cop cast: Anurag Kashyap, Harleen Sethi & more
Disney+ Hotstar’s upcoming series Bad Cop is gearing up to bring something fresh to OTT and features a stellar ensemble cast. Alongside Anurag Kashyap and Gulshan Devaiah, Harleen Sethi will be seen in the role of Devika, a fierce police officer. Meanwhile, Saurabh Sachdeva will feature as a CBI officer investigating a murder.
Furthermore, the series also features Anupam K. Sinha, Subham Sharma, Palle Singh, Deepak Kamboj, and Alok Khatnani. Amol Khatnani, Keya Ingle, Shatrughan Kumar, Bharat Bhatia, and Aishwarya Sushmita round up the ensemble
Talking about the series and his character, Anurag Kashyap said, “Kazbe is someone who doesn’t think too much before doing anything; he just does it. He is a dreadful, eccentric, nefarious and a quintessential villain. I had to bite into the intricacies of this character and make it my own.”
Moreover, the filmmaker revealed that the antagonist also has an emotional core as he cares about his family. Kazbe is ultimately operating an illegal business, taking care of his family while trying to have menacing fun.
Whereas Gulshan Deviah’s character is starkly different yet shares a common thread with the antagonist. “Karan and Arjun are identical twins with very different personalities and moreover one is a cop and the other a crook.. I think playing the twins in Bad Cop has been the most amazing time I’ve had in my career until now, and I really hope the masses find it fun too,” shared the actor.
Premiering on June 21, 2024, Bad Cop is gearing up to be a must-watch series on Disney+ Hotstar.
