Eddie Murphy says he’s open to the idea of making Beverly Hills Cop 5 following Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.
Appearing on the TODAY show, Murphy addressed whether or not he’d return to the role of Axel Foley for a potential Beverly Hills Cop 5 following the upcoming Netflix release of Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.
“I hope so because this movie turned out so good, especially if you grew up watching the movie, then you’ll really, really love this new picture,” he said.
Murphy had previously said he wanted to retire from Hollywood by the age of 50; however, he’s since changed his mind.
“I think I will keep being a creative person ‘til the day I die,” he said.
Murphy first played Axel Foley in 1984’s Beverly Hills Cop, which was directed by Martin Brest. He reprised the role in 1987’s Beverly Hills Cop II and 1994’s Beverly Hills Cop III, with Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F now releasing on Netflix this July.
Murphy further said of his character, “Axel is the everyman. He’s not a superhero or supercop. He’s the everyman that rises to the occasion. I think that’s why people like him. And, more than anything, he’s funny.”
At this time, Beverly Hills Cop 5 has not been officially announced.
What is the new Beverly Hills Cop movie, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, about?
“Detective Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy) is back on the beat in Beverly Hills. After his daughter’s life is threatened, she (Taylour Paige) and Foley team up with a new partner (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and old pals Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and John Taggart (John Ashton) to turn up the heat and uncover a conspiracy,” the synopsis for Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F reads.
The film, directed by Mark Molloy, also stars Kevin Bacon, Paul Reiser, Bronson Pinchot, Mark Pellegrino, and Luis Guzmán.
Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F releases on Netflix on July 3, 2024.
