The ongoing costume C-drama The Double, starring Wu Jinyan and Wang Xingyue in the lead roles, released episode 29 on June 17, 2024. As seen in the last episode, Fang Fei (Wu Jinyan) successfully exposed the imperial diviner. The new episode focuses on Fang Fei confronting Shuran.
In this episode, Shuran’s father criticizes her for losing to Fang Fei. Concubine Li, Shuran’s sister takes the side of her sister and accuses her father of using them as tools to gain power. She holds him accountable for driving Shuran insane. She also wants him to apologize to the Emperor and ultimately resign from his position. Furthermore, Concubine Li threatens to expose his actions if he doesn’t help Shuran.
Fang Fei visits Jiang Li’s grandmother to inquire about Ji Shuran. She mentions that she has some final words to say to her step-mother before she is sent away. Madam Jiang grants her permission.
The Jiang family receives a letter from the Emperor informing them of official Li’s resignation. He apologizes to the emperor on his daughter’s behalf and becomes a monk. Given the bizarre circumstances, the court urges Jiang Yuanbai to forgive his wife.
Meanwhile, Ji Shuran is haunted by the memories of the people she wronged throughout the years. When Fang Fei visits her, she threatens her and says that she holds the position of the lady of the house and Fang Fei can not even touch her hair. The latter reveals that she is aware how Shuran obtained her position.
She accuses Shuran of killing Jiang Li’s mother who was recovering slowly, to marry Jiang Yuanbai. Fang Fei offers her poison so she can repent for the innumerable crimes she has committed. Shuran struggles to run away from Fang Fei. Furthermore, she feels scared to death when Fang Fei accepts to not being the real Jiang Li.

Shuran breaks down crying, saying that she had no other choice because she was also being forced by her father. Fang Fei confronts her saying she had many chances to repent but chose to put Jiang Li’s life in danger. She then vows to punish her for all her wrongdoings.
Meanwhile, Jiang Ruoyao wakes up from the coma. She breaks down thinking how her own mother didn’t hesitate to feed her poison to achieve her goal.
Next, Fang Fei confronts Jiang Yuanbai. She proposes that instead of sending Shuran to prison, he let her guard Mrs. Jiang’s tomb. When Yuanbai asks her if she hates him, Fang Fei clarifies that she will never be able to forgive him for the pain he made her go through. Day after day, Jiang Li waited for her family to visit her in Zhennyu hall, but nobody came.
The emperor reveals his concerns to Xiao Heng as the ministers become Lord Cheng’s supporters. He worries that Yuanbai’s absence will make the officials take Li Zhongnan’s side. Xiao Heng asks him to calm down and promises to strategize well. He informs the emperor of the newly ascended king Zhao in the south, who can be an important ally for the state.
The emperor decides to hold a delegation ceremony to mark the union of the two states. Shen Yu Rong, is given the duty to welcome the delegation. Fang Fei, as the member of the school of integration, sends a letter to Yu Rong asking to join the reception envoy.
Xiao Heng reunites Fang Fei with her old maid Haitang who was also left to die after Fang Fei’s death. After a tearful reunion, Haitang reveals how the perpetrators knocked her unconscious and left in a secluded location. Once she escaped death, she fled the country, fearing for her safety.
