Netflix released all seven episodes of its new K-drama Hierarchy on Friday, June 7, 2024. Cast members Roh Jeong-Eui, Kim Jae-Won, and Lee Chae-Min led the Korean teen series that ended heartbreakingly.
Primarily a thriller, Hierarchy features subplots that deal with relationships and their severe emotional impact on each individual as they navigate deeper issues embedded within their society and culture.
However, the 2024 K-drama is focused on Kang Ha, a scholarship student who seeks revenge for his brother’s death. He blames an elite group of students for his brother’s trauma. However, his equation with Jeong Jae-Yi (Jeong-Eui) takes an exciting turn when they get closer.
Unfortunately, their closeness is faced with a significant challenge. Kang Ha and Jae-Yi’s newfound friendship irks her ex-boyfriend, Kim Ri-An (Jae-Won), causing a rivalry between the two boys. As the students continue to clash with each other, the narrative steadily moves towards revealing dark secrets.
Ultimately, things change at the school for the better when the truth is revealed. Jae-Yi and Ri-An get back together, but their relationship doesn’t last long. Jae-Yi helps Ri-An understand his mistake and accepts his love. He feels guilty after learning that Jae-Yi broke up with him to protect him. He promises to remain by her side, but she has to leave for New York.

Hierarchy K-drama spoilers: What happens between Roh Jeong-Eui & Kim Jae-Won?
In Hierarchy K-drama, Ri-An continues to pursue Jae-Yi even after she breaks up with him. On the other hand, she requests Kang Ha to let her protect Ri-An. Towards the end, she understands that everyone has to accept their punishment for the part they have played in Kang Ha’s brother’s death.
Meanwhile, Ri-An learns Jae-Yi’s reason for breaking up with him. Months ago, she became pregnant and went to New York for three months to deal with the situation. Jae-Yi endured the hardships alone to protect Ri-An from backlashes. When Ri-An learns about it, he promises to protect her always.
Due to these circumstances, Jae-Yi’s father sends her to New York to further study. Ri-An tries to stop her, but she has made a deal with her father. Before leaving, Jae-Yi says they should not depend on each other. But she gives him hope that they can be together in the future. She states, “I am looking forward to us meeting again when we no longer have to lean on each other but can share each other’s happiness individually.” He wishes her happiness and the two bid farewell with a warm hug.
