Mia Blanchard, who is Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s half-sister, was born to Gypsy’s father Rod Blanchard, and his second wife, Kristy Blanchard. Born in 2001, Mia is about a decade younger than Gypsy, reported People Magazine. The former claims she is proud of Gypsy for the growth she has made since her murder conviction while maintaining that her sister deserved prison time. Mia also has an older brother, Dylan, and she is now studying nursing in Louisiana.
According to TODAY, Mia Blanchard appeared in Lifetime’s The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard. The documentary series premiered weeks after Gypsy’s prison release from Missouri’s Chillicothe Correctional Center on December 28, 2023. Godejohn is serving a life sentence, while Gypsy got parole after eight years.
Lifetime’s latest documentary series Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up premiered on Monday, June 3, 2024. The limited series will air episodes every Monday on the network.
What does Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s sister Mia Blanchard do?
Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s sister Mia Blanchard spent her childhood years in Louisiana, per People Magazine. She graduated from high school in 2019 and started studying nursing at the University of Louisiana, where she is an Alpha Delta Pi sorority member. She celebrated her 22nd birthday last year.
The outlet stated that Mia, along with her family members, advocated for Gypsy’s early release from prison. In Lifetime’s The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard, the younger sister claimed she “always thought that 10 years was too long.” Mia added that while Gypsy “deserved to be in jail, she also deserved to get help.”
Mia Blanchard stated she felt sorry for Gypsy Rose as she grew up separately from her family and peers. Gypsy’s mother, Dee Dee, who suffered from Munchausen syndrome by proxy, fabricated her medical issues when she was a girl. People Magazine reported that she grew up believing she was terminally ill with the mind of a seven-year-old. Dee Dee also convinced her friends, family, and community that the girl suffered from muscular dystrophy, leukemia, and other ailments.
Reportedly, Mia claimed in Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s documentary that she feels sorry. The sister said, “Gypsy didn’t get the life that I got to live. I got to grow up with a loving father and a loving mother.” Mia grew up “going to school with my friends, hanging out with my friends, learning to do all these things and she never had that.” She believes these were “taken away from her [Gypsy] by her mother [Dee Dee Blanchard].”
Mia Blanchard added that she is proud of her elder sister Gypsy’s growth and that she is finally “finding herself, finding that independence.” The nursing student believes that while Gypsy has “made a lot of mistakes,” she is now “learning” and still has a long way to go to overcome her past trauma. Mia further stated, “Gypsy is always going to struggle with certain things,” but she also claimed that her sister “is growing into a beautiful woman. I am very proud of her.”
According to TODAY, Mia also spoke about her sister Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s marriage to Ryan Scott Anderson. Gypsy and Anderson tied the knot in 2022 while she was still serving time in prison. The two have since divorced.
In the documentary, Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s sister stated, “I kind of wish she would have just waited so she can live at home with mom and dad.” Mia Blanchard believes the “family time” could have helped Gypsy “create that bond with her.” She believes the former convict was robbed of a bond with her step-siblings.
After Gypsy’s prison release, she posted a picture with her younger sister Mia as their family welcomed her home.
