pig pua moana 2 trailer

Moana 2 Trailer Addresses a Big Question From the First Movie

The Moana 2 trailer shows most of the old gang is back for another adventure. But the sequel will also fix a glaring omission from the first movie. This time, Pua, Moana’s pet pig won’t be getting left behind.

The sequel, directed by David G. Derrick Jr., will be released in theaters on November 27, 2024. Original stars Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson will return to play Moana and the demigod Maui, respectively. However, the Moana 2 trailer revealed they’ll need a bigger raft this time.

Before the release of Moana in 2016, it appeared the latest Disney Princess would have two animal sidekicks. There was the rock-brained cockrel Hei Hei and the cutesy pig Pua. But when the film arrived, it was clear only one pet had made the cut. Pua featured heavily in promotional material and merchandise. However, once Moana makes her sea-faring journey, Pua is left ashore and out of the story. Hei Hei, meanwhile, got time to shine throughout. So will Pua get their due this time?

Pua the Pig is along for the ride in the Moana 2 trailer

The Moana 2 trailer addresses that. This time, Moana, Pua, Hei Hei, and Mau are all boarding the humble raft to embark on a new adventure.

The movie’s creators clearly reference the lack of Pua in the first film. Dwayne Johnson’s Maui interacts with the pig and Hei Hei, calling them ”bacon and eggs” before asking Moana why she didn’t bring Pua last time.

According to the synopsis, Moana 2 reunites Moana and Maui three years later for an expansive new voyage alongside a crew of unlikely seafarers. After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania. There she will encounter dangerous, long-lost waters in an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced.
