Bridgerton Season 3 Lord Anderson Explained: Will Lady Danbury’s Brother Marry Violet?

Among the new suitors in Bridgerton Season 3, Lord Anderson is one of the most unsettled as far as his true character is concerned. At first, much of what we learn about Marcus Anderson, which some fans have called Lord Danbury, is through Lady Danbury’s irritated reaction to her brother’s arrival in Mayfair. Throughout the season, Lord Anderson says he’s looking for a love match and has several interactions with Violet Bridgerton toward that end. But there are doubts as to whether his intentions are genuine. Here’s what we know thus far about Lord Anderson in the first part of the third season of the Netflix series Bridgerton.

Why is Lady Danbury annoyed by Lord Anderson in Bridgerton Season 3?

Lady Danbury is annoyed by Lord Anderson due to his reputation for being a rake. While we don’t see his lecherous behavior in Bridgerton Season 3 Part 1, his past might catch up with him in the rest of the season.

Late in episode two, we find that Lady Danbury receives a letter at night indicating that the then-unnamed Lord Anderson would soon be visiting. It’s not until her conversation with Queen Charlotte in the next episode that we learn that she considers him an “unwanted visitor.” We also discover that she disapproves of her brother’s desire to court the many ladies of the ton, and her disdain is made plain when he says as much.

Through the first two seasons of Bridgerton, Lady Danbury is shown as a strong-willed widow who wields tremendous social influence and is a sharp judge of character. So the fact that she has not mentioned her brother until now — Violet Bridgerton reacts in shock at the revelation — shows that something occurred between Lady Danbury and Lord Anderson that she doesn’t wish to share. The fact that he doesn’t even know the social power his sister wields over the ton suggests that he has became estranged from her. So while his stated intention is to find a potential love match after his wife passed away, something Lady Danbury would normally do for those she cares about, she is not as easily convinced. She even proclaims that his heart might be located in his breeches.

Will Lord Anderson marry Violet Bridgerton in Season 3?

The first part of Bridgerton Season 3 sets up the potential for Lord Anderson to propose to Violet Bridgerton, but she may not choose to marry him.

Lord Anderson first encounters Violet when he picks up her dropped gloves at the Hawkins ball. He meets her again as she searches for Francesca, and he remarks that this reminds him of when he was looking for his own children, though all of them have “since flown the nest.” In his conversation with Lady Danbury, we also learn that he makes many jokes, particularly with the staff since they are his only company when he’s at his country estate. This indicates that perhaps he is indeed feeling lonely without any peers or family around.

At a later ball, he confides with Violet that his initial match with his wife was not based on love and was not passionate in the beginning. They both share that there are in fact widows, and that he hopes to find a love match in his “second act.”

If Lord Anderson is able to persuade his sister of his cause, he may have a chance at marrying Violet. But they will need to resolve their estrangement from each other, and Violet would need to think about her family’s welfare. Marriage to the lord may mean leaving the Bridgerton House behind, including Hyacinth and Gregory who are still quite young. He would also need the approval of the many other Bridgertons who might have trouble considering a new father-in-law. That said, we’ll learn whether Lord Anderson and Violet’s relationship becomes more than merely a dalliance in Bridgerton Season 3 Part 2.
