Later, Lucien confesses to the murder in front of Joan and William at their apartment, and is sent to prison for two years. Seven years later, William and Joan are married, living in Mexico City with their son and a daughter from Joan’s previous marriage.
Unhappy with their marriage, William starts an affair with another guy, and goes off to meet him while Lee and Lucien visit Joan at a bar. Even though Joan is unhappy, she refuses to leave William and go back to the United States. One night, while entertaining Lee, Joan and William attempt their famous William Tell parlor trick, and William mistakenly shoots her in the head.
