What to Expect in Megalopolis?
The official synopsis reads: “The City of New Rome must change, causing conflict between Cesar Catilina (Adam Driver), a genius artist who seeks to leap into a utopian, idealistic future, and his opposition, Mayor Franklyn Cicero (Giancarlo Esposito), who remains committed to a regressive status quo, perpetuating greed, special interests, and partisan warfare. Torn between them is socialite Julia Cicero (Nathalie Emmanuel), the mayor’s daughter, whose love for Cesar has divided her loyalties, forcing her to discover what she truly believes humanity deserves.”
The Megalopolis cast includes Adam Driver, Nathalie Emmanuel, Giancarlo Esposito, Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Jason Schwartzman, Talia Shire, Laurence Fishburne, Kathryn Hunter, Grace VanderWaal, Jon Voight, and Dustin Hoffman.
Megalopolis is written and directed by Coppola, who produces alongside Fred Roos, Barry Hirsch, and Michael Bederman. Executive producers include Darren Demetre, Anahid Nazarian, and Barrie Osborne.
Coppola, who funded nearly all of the $120 million budget, is still looking for a U.S. distributor. Megalopolis will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on May 17.
