The Magical Girl and The Evil Lieutenant Used to Be Archenemies Anime Trailer Reveals Release Date

On Monday, May 13, 2024, Cocoa Fujiwara’s The Magical Girl and the Evil Lieutenant Used to Be Archenemies anime’s official website and Twitter released a new promotional video. The trailer also revealed the upcoming anime’s release date and additional cast members.

Cocoa released her manga in Square Enix’s magazine in 2013 but couldn’t complete it before she died in 2015. The following year, Square Enix released the manga’s final volume after seeking consent from Cocoa’s family.

The Magical Girl and the Evil Lieutenant Used to Be Archenemies anime: Everything you need to know

The highly anticipated anime will be a part of the 2024 summer anime lineup. It will premiere on July 9 on the AT-X channel, Tokyo MX, and BS11 at 10:45 p.m. The newly announced cast members include Kenichi Suzumura as Fomalhaut and Ayako Kawasumi as Bellatrix. Hiro Shimono will star as Alcyone, Nao Tōyama as Spica, Takumi Yamazaki as Sadalsudh, and Takaya Hashi as Betelgeuse.

Previously announced cast members include Mai Nakahara, who stars as Mira, and Yūki Ono as Byakuya Mimori. Shinichirō Miki will voice the cat familiar, while Mariya Ise will be heard as Hibana Kagari and Hikaru Midorikawa as the bird familiar.

Akiyo Ohashi will direct the anime at Studio Bones, while Yuniko Ayana will handle the scripts and series composition. Haruko Iizuka designs the characters, with Mayuko composing the music.

As for the plot, Yen Press describes the series as follows: “She’s a magical girl, sworn to fight for peace, love, and justice. He’s a lieutenant, born into a military family that serves an evil empire. And yet, it was love at first sight. From Inu x Boku SS creator Cocoa Fujiwara comes a four-panel comic about hostile enemies who won’t kill (and love) each other!”
