Warner Bros. announced on Wednesday that the upcoming crossover platform fighter MultiVersus will feature the Joker at launch. The game launches free-to-play later this month, featuring various characters from WB franchises.
The Joker comes to MultiVersus at launch
“He’s been waiting in the shadows for far too long,” reads MultiVersus’ announcement tweet and the trailer on YouTube. The “Get a Load of Me” trailer opens with Batman walking through a dark tunnel as Bugs Bunny is thrown against the wall by an explosion. He passes Shaggy crawling on the ground for his sandwich, and enters a fog-filled bat cave where a battered Arya Stark struggles to get back on her feet.
“Oh Batman,” says the Joker, emerging from the fog, “we have got to stop meeting like this. Will they get a load of me!” he adds as the trailer finally reveals the Joker’s character model. MultiVersus’ version of the Joker resembles the one from Batman the Animated Series, with some alterations. Mark Hamill, who voiced the Joker in the show and the Batman: Arkham games, reprises his role as the Clown Prince of Crime.
Announced in 2021, MultiVersus features 25 characters from 11 franchises and one original character from developer Player First Games. The Joker joins Batman, Harley Quinn, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Black Adam as the game’s sixth DC character. It had an early access release in summer 2022, but Warner Bros. pulled it from digital stores in 2023. The full version, ported to Unreal Engine 5, launches on May 28 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Series X/S.
