According to Variety, Oscar winner Cate Blanchett has officially found her next major project in the form of an alien invasion comedy titled Alpha Gang.
“The film follows alien invaders sent on a mission to conquer Earth. Disguised in human form as an armed and dangerous 1950s leather-clad biker gang, they show no mercy… until they catch the most toxic, contagious human disease of all: emotion,” reads the synopsis.
This marks Blanchett’s latest sci-fi movie, following her upcoming leading performance in Lionsgate’s long-delayed Borderlands movie. The upcoming live-action film adaptation of the hit video game series will feature Blanchett playing an infamous outlaw named Lilith. At the moment, the acclaimed actress is also currently attached to appear in the dark comedy movie Rumours with Alicia Vikander and in Apple TV+’s psychological thriller miniseries Disclaimer from Alfonso Cuarón.
Who’s involved in Alpha Gang?
Alpha Gang will be directed by filmmaker duo David and Nathan Zellner, who most recently helmed the absurdist comedy Sasquatch Sunset starring Jesse Eisenberg. In addition to leading the cast, Blanchett is also producing alongside the Zellner brothers, Coco Francini, Ryan Zacarias, and Gina Gammell. It is a production by Dirty Films, Fat City, Felix Culpa, M2K Films and CAA Media Finance.
“The Zellner brother’s work never fails to surprise and delight us,” Blanchett and Francini said in a joint statement. “In Alpha Gang, they have created a far out world in order to lampoon something much closer to home: the hilarious, absurd, and peculiar truth of the human condition.”
Production is expected to begin this coming fall.
