The May 6th edition of WWE RAW featured one of the most stacked match cards in the show’s history. WWE advertised several high-profile matches for the show, including the first-round qualifiers for the King and Queen of the Ring matches. The announcement of these matches heightened excitement among the show’s fans.
Last week, WWE hosted the 2024 Draft, which saw several NXT stars called up to the main roster. Many NXT stars were expected to be used on the show. However, that was not the case for those stars.
According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, reported behind a paywall, RAW brought several other NXT call-ups and draftees to the show but did not utilize them. This was likely due to time constraints, given that the show was believed to have the most advertised card in RAW’s history.
Despite WWE announcing eight qualifiers for the King and Queen of the Ring tournament, the matches could not take place. This includes the matches between Rey Mysterio vs. Kofi Kingston and Shayna Baszler vs. Zelina Vega. Nevertheless, WWE announced during the show that these matches would occur at an upcoming WWE live event this weekend.
Two NXT stars make a major impact on their WWE RAW debut
On the latest edition of RAW, WWE had a stacked match card, causing some matches to be rearranged. Nonetheless, Ilja Dragunouv and Lyra Valkyria, former champions in NXT’s men’s and women’s divisions, made their debut and left a significant impact.
Dragunouv defeated Ricochet and advanced to the second round of the tournament. Meanwhile, Valkyria faced Dakota Kai, who also won and moved to the second round. Thus, the upcoming edition of WWE RAW will feature Dragunouv taking on Jey Uso. On the other hand, Valkyria will compete against Zoey Starks in the tournament’s second round.
