When Itachi Uchiha first introduced the bewildering power of the Naruto Shippuden series, it was the ultimate weapon against Sasuke. Several other Susanoo are introduced throughout the series, however, their powers are significantly different, as they depend on a user-to-user basis.
An Uchiha who has awakened the Mangekyou Sharingan in both of their eyes can use the strongest ability available to them, the Susanoo. This impenetrable defense is arguably the most formidable. The Susanoo manifests as a giant humanoid made from the users’ chakra and is capable of acting on their behalf.
What is a Susanoo in Naruto Shippuden?
Susanoo is the strongest power bestowed upon the Uchiha Clan in Naruto Shippuden. It is a massive, humanoid body manifested from the user’s chakra. It envelops the user and fights for the user. Those who have awakened the Mangekyou Sharingan in both of their eyes have access to this terrifying power.
Like other Mangekyou Sharingan abilities, Susanoo also draws inspiration from Japanese mythology. He was the brother of Amaterasu and Tsukuyomi. Susanoo was a god of the sea of storms. He was born in Izanagi and inherited Totsuka no Tsurugi, which was his father’s blade. He used it to slay his son Kagu-Tsuchi as his birth burned his mother, Izanami, to death. Susanoo used that very sword to kill Yamata no Orochi and redeem himself. Things weren’t good between him and Amaterasu, and he offered peace by giving away the Sword of Kusanagi to his brother.
Susanoo has a skeletal phase before it becomes fully fleshed out on the user. It looks similar to Gashadokuro, which means Starving Skeleton. It is a ghost (yokai) manifested from the negative energy of the fallen soldiers who were not properly buried. Susanoo is almost fifteen times the size of the user’s body, which is terrifying for their opponents.
Kakashi Hatake’s version of the Susanoo
One of the most bizarre events in the entire series was when a non-Uchiha, Kakashi Hatake, summoned a Susanoo. This was possible because his best friend, Obito Uchiha, gifted him with one of his eyes during the Third Great Ninja War. This was the start of “Copy-Ninja Kakashi,” who was well-known throughout the five nations. He could use Mangekyou Sharingan, too, at the start of Naruto Shippuden. Furthermore, his grip over his abilities improved with time when he was nothing less than an actual Uchiha, using the abilities of their Sharingan.
Kakashi gets Mangekyou Sharingan in both of his eyes, thanks to Obito at the end of the Fourth Great Ninja War. With the residual Chakra of the Six-Paths, he manifested a Full-Body Susanoo, which could even combat Kaguya Otsutsuki. This enhanced his powers significantly, albeit it was a temporary boost.
The entire form of his Susanoo is light blue. The Tengu inspired most of the Susanoo, so the complete body of Kakashi’s Susanoo also resembles a Tengu. Features such as a long nose, a forehead protector-like armor on its head, two locks of hair falling on either side of its face, and a hole in its chin. Perhaps the most intriguing part of its appearance was the scar across its left eye, which resembled Kakashi’s signature scar. The most prominent weapon it wielded was the shurikens, which looked similar to Mangekyou Sharingan.
