GKIDS has acquired the North American distribution rights to the upcoming coming-of-age anime movie titled, The Colors Within. In addition to the U.S., the acclaimed producer will also be handling the film’s distribution in Latin America, Australia and New Zealand.
The anime movie will be having its world premiere at the 2024 Annecy International Animated Film Festival. This will then be followed by its theatrical release in both its original Japanese language and a new English dubbed version this coming winter, just in time for the 2024-2025 awards season.
What to expect from The Colors Within?
“Totsuko is a high school student with the ability to see the ‘colors’ of others. Colors of bliss, excitement, and serenity, plus a color she treasures as her favorite. Kimi, a classmate at her school, gives off the most beautiful color of all,” reads the official synopsis. “Although she doesn’t play an instrument, Totsuko forms a band with Kimi and Rui, a quiet music enthusiast they meet at a used bookstore in a far corner of town. As they practice at an old church on a remote island, music brings them together, forming friendships and stirring affections. Will they discover their true ‘colors’?”
The Colors Within (Kimi no iro) is directed by Naoko Yamada (A Silent Voice) from a screenplay written by Reiko Yoshida (Violet Evergarden), and kensuke ushio (Chainsaw Man) composing the score. The creative team includes animation director and character designer Takashi Kojima. It is a production by Science SARU (Scott Pilgrim Takes Off) and Story inc. (Your Name, Weathering With You, Suzume).
