Released in 2019, Ready or Not was one of the best horror films of the late 2010s. In it, Samara Weaving portrays Grace, a new bride who discovers the twisted nature of her in-laws on her wedding night. Because of a curse, they often hunt down a new member of the family in a violent and depraved game of hide-and-seek. The film has garnered an 89% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It also reportedly made $57.6 million at the global box office against a $6 million budget. So, a potential sequel was always on the cards. Is there a Ready or Not 2 release date?
Ready or Not 2 does not have an official release date, but it will likely be announced in the future.
In March 2024, The InSneider reported that the Ready or Not sequel was in the works, with Adam Robitel (Escape Room) as director. Weaving will reportedly reprise her role.
In April 2024, the directors of the original film, Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, and producer Chad Villella revealed to Entertainment Weekly that they already had a script for the sequel.
“It’s [Ready or Not 2] getting figured out,” Gillett explained. “That’s what we’ll say: Ready or Not 2 is getting figured out. What we can say is that there is a script that is an absolute f—ing banger of a sequel. And however it gets made, and in whatever capacity we are helping get it made, we are so excited that it’s happening. That movie is truly the love of our creative lives in a lot of ways,” he added.
According to Gillett, they didn’t realize that they had more things to say even after the first film. “We’re so proud of what that first movie is, we’re so proud of what the sequel is,” he continued. “We’re just really excited, and fingers crossed that it gets made,” Gillett further stated.
Although it seems that the filmmakers aren’t yet ready to confirm the sequel is happening, they do appear hopeful. Bettinelli-Olpin elaborated, “And with Searchlight [distributor of the first film under the name Fox Searchlight Pictures] and Samara, they’re not gonna let it down.”
