Parasyte: The Grey aired on Netflix on Friday, April 5, 2024. Starring Jeon So-Nee as Su-In, the sci-fi thriller K-drama revolves around a battle between humans and parasites.
In the previous episode, Su-In and Kang-Woo (Koo Kyo-Hwan) were on the run when she decided to warn Choi Joon-Kyung (Lee Jung-Hyun). The latter made Su-In believe that she would listen to her but laid a trap to capture Su-In. Thankfully, Kang-Woo arrived at the right time and saved her. In the end, they figured out that the parasite leader had planned to attack the mayor.
Netflix‘s Parasyte: The Grey finale (episode 6) begins with a backstory of Kang Won-Seok’s (Kim In-Kwon) encounter with the parasite leader. At the time, it took over a pastor’s body, and now it hosts Cheol-Min’s (Kwan Hae-Hyo) body. Despite many obstacles, the final episode provides thrilling scenes and a satisfactory ending.
Parasyte: The Grey episode 6 recap & spoilers: Did Lee Jung-Hyun join forces with mutant Jeon So-Nee?
In Parasyte: The Grey episode 6, Su-In (Jeon So-Nee) and Kang-Woo are still on the run. Meanwhile, Su-In reveals that Cheol-Min is a parasite bother. As she becomes suspicious of him, Cheol-Min asks Won-Seok to seek the organization’s help in order to distract her focus.
Seeing the pastor’s parasite taking over Cheol-Min’s body, Kyung-Hee feels betrayed. For those unaware, she is the infected sister of Kang-Woo. Now, she wants the parasite leader dead and thus becomes Su-In’s ally. Su-In explains why she is a mutant and not a pure parasite. So, in episode 1, the larva attacked a wounded Su-In. Therefore, the parasite couldn’t control her brain; instead, it used its ability to heal her body. At present, Su-In and her parasite, Heidi, are learning to co-exist.
With Kyung-Hee’s help, Su-In and Kang-Woo figure out what the parasite leader desires. Despite being betrayed multiple times, Su-In still wants to join forces with Joon-Kyung and thus informs her about the plan. The Team Grey leader abandons her superior’s direct orders and follows Su-In.
Team Grey, Su-In/Heidi, Kang-Woo, Kyung-Hee, Cheol-Min, and Won-Seok gather separately at an event where the mayor has arrived. Won-Seok and Cheol-Min attack the mayor but Kyung-Hee appears at the right time. She, along with Kang-Woo, manages to save the mayor. However, the parasite leader kills her. The parasite leader attaches itself to Won-Seok, who gets into a face-off with Heidi. In between their fight, Joon-Kyung arrives and points her gun at Heidi.
Meanwhile, a loose parasite attempts to attack Joon-Kyung from behind. Heidi jumps in and kills it while Joon-Kyung shoots Won-Seok. Heidi mentions that she believes Joon-Kyung won’t shoot her. The mutant further adds that Su-In has been betrayed by her loved ones in the past but still easily believes people. As such, Heidi had wanted to set a good example for her host.
Parasyte: The Grey ending: Who is Shinichi?
Towards the Parasyte: The Grey end, Joon-Kyung doesn’t reveal Su-In’s secret to the government. While Team Grey’s leader continues to run her task force, Su-In works at a departmental store. When Kang-Woo visits her, he tells her that Joon-Kyung has hired him. He then gives her a letter that her parasite, Heidi, has written to her.
In the letter, Heidi mentions some kind words for Su-In and states that she is not lonely. Before leaving, Kang-Woo says that Joon-Kyung has kept a spot open for her in her task force. Going by the finale, all the characters get their happy endings.
However, the final scene is interesting. It features Joon-Kyung walking into her office, where a reporter claiming to be a parasite expert is waiting for her. He introduces himself as Shinichi. Those who have read the manga series must know that he is the protagonist of the original story. In it, he is 17 years old but looks much older in Parasyte: The Grey drama. It seems the director wants to imply that the K-drama’s and the manga’s storylines are part of the same universe.
Parasyte: The Grey is currently streaming on Netflix.
