The WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins has reflected on a potential showdown with CM Punk at WrestleMania. Punk returned to the company at WWE Survivor Series 2023, marking his first appearance in nine years. Seth Rollins appeared to be the most displeased by Punk’s return.
The tension between Rollins and Punk escalated when they confronted each other on an episode of RAW in December. This heated confrontation led many to believe that WWE was heading towards a scenario where CM Punk would challenge Seth Rollins for the title at WrestleMania 40. However, these plans did not materialize because Punk suffered an injury at the Royal Rumble. This injury sidelined him from performing at this year’s WrestleMania.
In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Seth Rollins discussed the potential of facing CM Punk at WrestleMania 40 if he hadn’t been injured. He stated, “A match against Punk, that was never on my radar. I believed I would never see that guy again. I thought that until I saw him at Survivor Series.”
While Seth Rollins won’t be facing CM Punk at WrestleMania 40, he is slated to defend his title against Drew McIntyre. McIntyre earned the number one contendership by winning the men’s Elimination Chamber match in February.

These ranged from his departure from AEW to his return to WWE and his relationship with Triple H. Additionally, Punk talked about meeting Vince McMahon and Nick Khan, who pursued him to make a return to WWE. He also shared the original plans for WrestleMania 40 before getting injured.
In an interview on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, CM Punk confirmed that he and Seth Rollins were supposed to main event Night One of WrestleMania 40 before his injury. Punk stated, “I think the plan was for me and Seth (Rollins) to main event Night 1. I believe so, but I came in and said, ‘I’m not asking questions. You’re the boss.”
While CM Punk won’t be appearing for in-ring action at WrestleMania 40, he will be on commentary during Rollins and McIntyre’s match. Additionally, he will be present on the kickoff show on both nights of WrestleMania.
