Set in the post-revolutionary era in Russia, the protagonist, Count Alexander Rostov, was on house arrest for decades in a luxurious hotel in Moscow after losing his name and fame. Rostov’s uncanny knack for establishing unlikely friendships, transient romances, and people open his eyes to the hidden gems of human nature. He discovered that a man’s actual riches are love, bravery, and community. He realized this after he lost everything in life.
