Directed and produced by Laura Brownson, The Lionheart is a documentary film about the late motor racing driver Dan Wheldon. The film had its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on June 10, 2023. Here’s when the documentary is coming out on HBO Max.

Titled after Wheldon’s nickname, The Lionheart delves into the life of the two-time Indy 500 Champion and his tragic death at the IZOD IndyCar World Championship in Las Vegas in 2011. The film also focuses on Wheldon’s two sons as they follow in their father’s footsteps into the world of racing over a decade after his death and the family’s response to it.
Wheldon appears in the film via archive footage. Some of the other members of the cast are Susie Wheldon, Oliver Wheldon, Sebastian Wheldon, Dario Franchitti, Tony Kanaan, and more.
