The original WrestleMania 40 plans for Gunther have been unveiled, shedding light on WWE’s anticipated event. WrestleMania 40 will be headlined by Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.
Other confirmed matchups include Seth Rollins vs. Drew McIntyre for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, and Rhea Ripley vs. Becky Lynch for the WWE Women’s World Championship, along with IYO SKY facing Bayley for the WWE Women’s Championship. Additionally, The Rock is expected to compete, likely in a tag team match with Reigns against Rhodes and Rollins.
Recent reports have also suggested that the WWE United States Champion Logan Paul will face Randy Orton. This situation leaves current WWE Intercontinental Champion Gunther in a unique position. During the latest Wrestling Observer Radio segment, Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez shed light on Gunther’s WrestleMania 40 plans.
Meltzer remarked, “And something’s going on. I’ll probably get a clarification tomorrow. I had heard of Gunther and Sami Zayn. But when I watched the show tonight, it felt to me like there, it was very clear…” To which Bryan Alvarez responded, “It felt to me like they’re doing a multi-person night one. And the winner gets Gunther night two.”
Furthermore, Meltzer added, “It could be that. Maybe that is what they’re going to do, or it just could be like a multi-person match. You know, where they, because they had Chad Gable, Gunther mentioned our R-Truth and The Miz.”
It will be interesting to see the direction WWE goes in for the Intercontinental Champion Gunther.
Gunther may get confronted by multiple challengers for the WWE Intercontinental Championship
During an in-ring segment featuring Imperium and Gunther on WWE RAW, Judgment Day interrupted them. Damian Priest conveyed their intention to seize more gold at WrestleMania, including Gunther’s title. Even Dominik Mysterio confronted the Ring General, asserting Judgment Day’s claim to the title.
Also during a backstage segment on RAW, Imperium interrupted Sami Zayn. This led to a staredown between Zayn and the Ring General. Additionally, Chad Gable expressed his desire for revenge against Gunther to the general manager of RAW Adam Pearce.
With multiple challengers emerging, it appears Gunther faces a daunting road to WrestleMania 40. It remains to be seen if this will result in a number one contender match or a multi-person ladder match at the event.
