Ti West says he has a “weird” idea for a fourth movie in the X/Pearl/MaXXXine universe.
Speaking with the YouTube channel What’s Under the Bed, via Bloody Disgusting, West teased another installment in his shared horror universe that could potentially come after MaXXXine.
“There is this one weird idea that I have that is kind of… if I explained it, it would make sense,” West said. “But we’ll see what happens. Let’s get this movie done first, see if people like it. Then we’ll go from there.”
Regarding the post-production status of MaXXXine, West added, “It’s coming along. I’m almost done editing it. So far, so good.”
What do we know about MaXXXine?
MaXXXine, which will reportedly be a slasher murder mystery, is written and directed by West. The film is set in 1980s Los Angeles and follows the events of X and Pearl, both of which were released in 2022. X and Pearl were also directed by West and primarily starred Mia Goth.
Goth is reprising her role as Maxine in the forthcoming film. She’s joined by Elizabeth Debicki, Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan, Bobby Cannavale, Lily Collins, Halsey, Giancarlo Esposito, and Kevin Bacon.
“The film follows Maxine, after the events of X, as the sole survivor who continues her journey towards fame setting out to make it as an actress in 1980’s Los Angeles,” a brief synopsis for the film reads.
MaXXXine was filmed in 2023 prior to the start of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strikes. A24 has not yet given the movie an official release date, though it’s expected to come out in 2024.
X, meanwhile, is currently streaming on Netflix. Both X and Pearl are also available to watch on Fubo and Showtime.
