BTS’ discography goes beyond their albums. Along with their Billboard charting songs, the K-pop singers have often lent their vocals to anime and webtoon opening tracks. As a result, Bangtan ARMY has a lot more music to enjoy and croon to beyond the band’s albums and singles. Here is a list of the top BTS OSTs that have won the fan hearts worldwide.
‘The Planet’
BTS made their anime music debut with the theme song for a Korean animation series, Bastion. The song titled “The Planet” was released on May 14, 2023, along with the anime’s release.
From Jungkook‘s opening lines to the upbeat chorus, the song instantly connected with the fans, and has garnered over 10 million streams on YouTube. The track also topped Billboard’s US World Chart after its release.
‘Stay Alive’
Jeon Jungkook released “Stay Alive” for the webtoon 7FATES: CHAKHO, which marked a collaboration between HYBE and Naver Webtoon. The slow-tempo pop ballad earned the singer his first-ever individual Billboard Hot 100 entry before his official solo debut.
“Stay Alive” charted at number 95 on the Billboard Hot 100 and ranked 13 on the Global 200 chart. It also became the first Korean original soundtrack in history to debut on the Official Singles Chart in the United Kingdom.
‘Stay Gold’
The BTS craze in Japan prompted the K-pop hitmakers to release an original soundtrack for a Japanese TV show. BTS released the track “Stay Gold” for the TV Tokyo drama Spiral Labyrinth – DNA Forensic Investigation.
The single also found a place in BTS’ Japanese album, Map of the Soul: 7 – The Journey. The language barrier didn’t stop the track from being celebrated worldwide and proving that music has no boundaries. It ranked number 1 on the US World Digital Song Sales chart. The song also peaked at number 3 on Billboard’s US Digital Songs chart.
‘Your Eyes Tell’
BTS’ Jungkook showed his prowess as a singer and songwriter in the Japanese OST, “Your Eyes Tell” for the movie Kimi No Me Ga Toikakete Iru, which released on October 23, 2020.
The heart wrenching ballad was also included in BTS’ Japanese album, Map of the Soul 7: The Journey. The song features a powerful bridge where V, Jimin, and Jungkook harmonize to send a message of hope amid heartbreak as the trio sing, “To be loved/ To love someone/ I’ll become your eye/ For the adventure that lies ahead.”
‘Film Out’
BTS released “Film Out” on April 1, 2021, with a music video. The song was an OST for the Japanese movie Signal. The song became a global hit due its lyrics that made the fans connect with the emotions of the film and its cast.
Along with the song’s lyrics, BTS ARMY dug deep into the music video in order to find clues about the storyline in the BTS universe. Many also compared the track’s visuals to “Fake Love,” which dropped in 2018.
Apart from the tracks on this list, BTS members have sung many OSTs for K-dramas over the years. BTS’ V has “Sweet Night”, and “Christmas Tree” to his name while Jimin’s “With You” ft. Ha Sung Woon is an ARMY favourite.
