Frieren episode 23 recap: Sense’s test surprises the mages
Frieren episode 23 covers the second round of the First Class Mage Exam. The proctor for the test, Sense, is a self-proclaimed pacifist. She instructs the test takers to go on a dungeon raid and reach the bottom of the Ruins of the King’s Tomb to pass the test.
Keeping her word as a pacifist, she hands over prototypes of a Golem to every participant. Hence, any participant in danger can break the bottle in the face of death, but at the cost of being disqualified.
As the participants reflect on how to go about the test, Denken suggests that they should all team up and assign roles. However, many participants opposed the idea, reminding him that this round was no longer about teamwork. Frieren also embarks on the raid along with Fern, and Sense follows them.
Frieren seems to enjoy the raid as she collects various magical items while being careful and strategic about her path at every step. At the same time, the other mages face life-threatening challenges with Gargoyles and the participants’ replicas attacking them.
While fans expect Frieren’s replica to confront Frieren, it shows up all alone to challenge Denken and his companions. Denken admits that he would never have indulged in this combat if he had the choice.
