Dateline NBC’s upcoming episode will explore the case against Ganesh “Remy” Ramsaran after his wife Jennifer Ramsaran’s murder. The episode titled “The Perfect Life” will air on the network on Friday, February 16, 2024, at 9 p.m. ET. The synopsis says, “More than a decade after a New York mother of three is murdered, the story takes an unexpected turn as a twist emerges that leads to an unforeseen conclusion.”
Jennifer Ramsaran left the house on December 11, 2012, and never returned. Her body was found months later, in February 2013. Following this, all suspicion fell on her husband, Remy Ramsaran. The Evening Sun stated that police learned about his affair with Jennifer’s close friend, Eileen Sayles, and suspected that he murdered her because of the affair. They believed he also wanted to collect insurance money.
Detectives found blood evidence while investigating Jennifer’s murder that linked Remy to the crime. They arrested him in May 2013 and charged the accused with second-degree murder. Remy maintained his innocence and stood trial in 2014, which resulted in a conviction. He was initially sentenced to 25 years to life, but a judge granted him a retrial in October 2022.
Eventually, Remy accepted a deal and pleaded guilty to manslaughter, receiving 22 years in prison, per WNBF. According to the New York Department of Corrections, Ganesh “Remy” Ramsaran is now serving time in the Clinton Correctional Facility.
How was Ganesh “Remy” Ramsaran linked to Jennifer Ramsaran’s murder?
According to Oxygen, after reporting Jennifer missing, Remy Ramsaran told authorities that he tracked her phone to an area outside town. During a search, while police failed to find any evidence, he returned with the phone, undamaged. He claimed to have found it in an overgrown area near a bridge in Plymouth. The Daily Star reported that Remy later explained in an interview that he used GPS technology to locate the phone.
Days after Jennifer’s disappearance, her father found the couple’s abandoned minivan outside a Norwich apartment complex. Months later, on February 26, 2013, her unclothed body was found off a remote road in the town of Pharsalia.
At the time, Ganesh “Remy” Ramsaran had told police that he suspected Jennifer was having an affair and that her rendezvous with that person went wrong. However, police found no evidence of an extramarital romance and learned that she spent most of her free time playing online fantasy games with a man named Rob. They did not consider him a suspect, per Oxygen.
Detectives then started investigating Remy and learned about his affair with Jennifer’s close friend, Eileen Sayles. Moreover, Remy had initially told police that he went for a run after the victim left their house the morning she went missing. However, his alibi began to fall apart when authorities found no surveillance footage of him on the route that he claimed to have taken.
Moreover, investigators found blood evidence on the couple’s mattress as well as on Remy’s sweatshirt, the one he wore that same day. Oxygen reported that former Chenango County DA Joseph McBride said, “In our theory of the case, he actually killed his wife at home, and cleaned up for a few hours.” They believed that after committing the crime, Remy dumped all evidence, including Jennifer’s body, her phone, and their van.
Was Remy Ramsaran convicted of Jennifer’s murder?
According to The Daily Star, authorities arrested Ganesh “Remy” Ramsaran in connection with Jennifer Ramsaran’s murder in May 2013. They arrested Remy nearly three months after the discovery of Jennifer’s body, but he maintained his innocence. He was facing second-degree murder charges and stood trial in 2014. A jury found him guilty of the count, following which he received a prison sentence of 25 years to life.
However, a judge granted Remy a retrial in October 2022 based on inadequacies in his previous defense, per WNBF. He then accepted a deal and pleaded guilty to a reduced count of manslaughter. Special Prosecutor Ben Bergman claimed that his guilty plea marked the revelation of the true details about the murder.
The outlet reported that as part of the plea deal, Remy acknowledged his involvement in Jennifer’s death. Following this, Remy accepted a sentence of 22 years in prison and also waived his right to an appeal. According to the New York Department of Corrections, he is currently serving time in the Clinton Correctional Facility.
