More than a year since it was confirmed that The Handmaid’s Tale will be coming back for a sixth and final season, Emmy and Golden Globe winner Elisabeth Moss has finally shared an update regarding the acclaimed Hulu series’ production and potential release date.
During a recent interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Moss confirmed that they’re currently planning to start shooting The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6 sometime this summer.
“We are going back to shoot this summer,” She revealed. “Our final season… It probably won’t be [released] until maybe 2025.”
Who’s involved in The Handmaid’s Tale?
The Handmaid’s Tale is based on Margaret Atwood’s award-winning and best-selling novel of the same name. The series also stars Yvonne Strahovski, Samira Wiley, Ann Dowd, Max Minghella, Madeline Brewer, O-T Fagbenle, Amanda Brugel, Bradley Whitford, and Sam Jaeger. It is created, executive produced, and written by Bruce Miller. Executive producers are Moss, Atwood, Warren Littlefield, Daniel Wilson, Fran Sears, and Ilene Chaiken.
“In the last season of The Handmaid’s Tale, June faces consequences for killing Commander Waterford while struggling to redefine her identity and purpose,” reads the synopsis. “The widowed Serena attempts to raise her profile in Toronto as Gilead’s influence creeps into Canada. June, Luke, and Moira fight Gilead from a distance as they continue their mission to save and reunite with Hannah.”
