The much-awaited K-drama Doctor Slump is all set to premiere on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at 10:30 p.m. KST on JTBC. The series will also be available to stream on Netflix. It follows the story of two high-school rivals, Yeo Jeong-Woo (Park Hyung-Sik) and Nam Ha-Neul (Park Shin-Hye). The two eventually reunite after 14 years during the worst times of their respective lives. Gradually, they turn from being rivals to friends and fall in love while supporting each other.
What’s interesting to note is that Doctor Slump marks the reunion of the leads, Park Hyung-Sik and Park Shin-Hye, over a decade after they were both seen in the iconic 2013 K-drama The Heirs. The two arrived for a product presentation for the upcoming drama and talked about their bond while filming The Heirs and the closeness over time that is reflected in Doctor Slump’s filming. Viewers will have to wait to see their reunion and further journey unfold.
Park Hyung-Sik & Park Shin-Hye talk Doctor Slump filming and their reunion
During the product presentation for Doctor Slump, the lead couple, Park Hyung-Sik and Park Shin-Hye, elaborated on their filming memories, respective characters, and more. Reflecting on their bond during The Heirs, Hyun-Sik recalled that they met as acquaintances back then. He felt that they didn’t have enough time to build their bond. Even Park Shin-Hye revealed that they didn’t have many scenes together as they mostly interacted during group scenes.
The actress further said (originally in Korean), “At that time, Hyungsik was very different. He got off the plane, came to the filming set, filmed, and then went straight to entertainment or music broadcasts.” However, while filming Doctor Slump, Park Shin-Hye expressed that it brought them closer together as friends.
Park Shin-Hye, who married actor Choi Tae-Jun in January 2022, welcomed a baby boy in May of the same year. After this brief break, the actress recalled agreeing to essay a lead role in Doctor Slump. She felt it was time to do something she was really good at. Park Shin-Hye further revealed that she sympathized a lot with her character Nam Ha-Neul as she herself went through burnout just like the character. This also helped her sweep naturally into essaying the role.
Meanwhile, she also reflected on returning to filming after the birth of her son last year. The actress revealed that she hasn’t changed much and received immense help from fellow actors. She said (originally in Korean), “I had a lot of fun throughout the filming. I think it was the same. The environment just changed a little, but my heart is the same.”
On the other hand, Park Hyung-Sik explained his craftmanship behind working in rom-coms and said (originally in Korean), “I don’t know if there is a secret. It’s fun to work with the other person, so while working together on set, I try and say, “Do you think this line would be more fun?” If the actor accepts it, (I try it out). It also boosts my confidence.”
The duo also joked about wearing a uniform after a long time. They faced challenges during filming the flashback scenes, which had them portray a younger version of their characters. Nevertheless, the duo managed to cheer each other through this process.
To witness their chemistry together, don’t forget to tune in to Doctor Slump on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at 10:30 p.m. KST on JTBC and later on Netflix.
