Morgan Nick was a 6-year-old who was reported missing on June 9, 1995. She was reportedly with her friends, chasing fireflies in the parking lot of a baseball field in Alma, Arkansas, where she had gone to watch a Little League game. Over 28 years later, Morgan Nick is still missing. Her disappearance remains unexplained while Coleen Nick, Morgan’s mother continues the decades-long fight to find her daughter.
Among the most important evidence collected by investigators, is a red pickup truck with a camper. The truck was parked by the baseball field on the night of Morgan Nick’s disappearance. Local police reportedly received statements that the man inside the truck was approaching children, ABC News reported. The people who reported suspicious activity from the truck described the man and authorities sent out sketches to identify him.
40/29 News reported that the man, according to authorities was between 23 and 38 years of age. He may have had a moustache and beard with a muscular build and a height of 6 feet. However, for decades, local authorities and FBI agents worked together with Morgan’s mother to find Morgan Nick. The investigation did not end up with any hopeful leads.
Coleen Nick launched the Morgan Nick Foundation in 1996, the year after Morgan went missing. The organisation provides a support network for Arkansas families of missing children and adults. The group focuses on educating children and equipping them with the necessary skills to minimise child abductions.
“The possibility is that 2% [of missing children] do survive. That means that until someone can prove that Morgan didn’t survive, the possibility remains that she survived until someone can prove it,” Coleen told ABC News.
Who were the possible suspects in Morgan Nick’s kidnapping?
As recently as in November 2021, authorities announced that they may have come across an important lead in Morgan Nick’s missing case. Billy Jack Lincks was convicted of sexual indecency and attempting to abduct a child, nearly two months after Morgan was reported missing. An 11-year-old girl reported to the police that a man in a red pickup truck had invited her into his vehicle. She was walking in Van Buren with her little brother when he made sexual remarks to her, 40/29 News reported.
He also allegedly offered to pay the child to get into his truck when she resisted. The girl ran away and reported the man while a witness came forward with information about an Arkansas license tag, leading to Lincks’ arrest. Van Buren is only ten minutes away from the place where Morgan Nick was last seen, making him a central person of interest in the missing case.
Investigators thoroughly went through the red Chevrolet Scottsdale truck. The search revealed blood on the seat of the truck alongside multiple hair samples. Neither of the pieces of evidence contained enough DNA information to make a perfect match. Lincks was convicted of sexual abuse in 1992. He died while serving his sentence in 2000, at the age of 75, according to Boston 25 News.
In Still Missing Morgan, an ABC News Studios docuseries about the disappearance of Morgan Nick, investigators reveal that some of the fibres found in the truck could match those on the Girl Scouts shirt that Morgan was wearing at the time of the disappearance. According to ABC News, Coleen Nick has not given up hope of finding her daughter.
Still Missing Morgan was released on February 16, 2023, and is currently streaming on Hulu.
