Malayalam star Mohanlal is gearing up for the release of his much-awaited film, Malaikottai Vaaliban. The upcoming film is a day away from hitting the theaters. While the movie’s most-awaited trailer was recently unveiled, it did not reveal details about its plot. Instead, it left the viewers curious about its plot. However, director Lijo Jose Pellissery recently spilled some beans about the film’s plot.

Malaikottai Vaaliban marks Mohanlal and Lijo Jose Pellissery’s maiden project together. The ace actor-filmmaker duo has seemingly promised to bring an intriguing story to the big screens. While Mohanlal is known for signing the most unique scripts, Pellissery’s craft is undoubtedly brilliant.

Mohanlal’s Malaikottai Vaaliban: What is the story?

During a recent interview with The Hindu, Lijo Jose Pellissery opened up about Malaikottai Vaaliban. When asked how he came up with the movie, the director revealed that everything just fell into the right place. He said, “The film just fell into the right track. The producers, actors, and the story all came together. When I narrated the story, they liked it.”

Pellissery further revealed that he wanted to make the film in Tamil, but he then changed his plan. He said, “There is the feel of a folk tale to the whole story but I wanted the vocabulary to be rooted in the soil. I knew that Rafeeque would be the best person to get the language right.” When the director was asked about Mohanlal’s character, he chose not to reveal much details. He said, “Let it be intriguing till the film reaches theatres on January 25, talking about if the character is a wrestler or an illusionist.

The director further shared his idea of Malaikottai Vaaliban and revealed how he wanted the film to not have any western influence. He said, “We are telling a story. I wanted to use a very Indian terrain and the characters to be rooted in that background. But I have taken elements from around the globe, from Japanese folk culture, the Samurai culture in Japan, from Westerns and so on, but at the same I wanted to make sure that it had no touch of the western influence.”

Malaikottai Vaaliban is arriving in theaters on January 25.
