Civil War A24 release date

Civil War Release Date Moved Up for Alex Garland A24 Movie

Civil War, the new A24 movie directed by Alex Garland, has bumped up its release date.

Per Deadline, Garland’s Civil War was originally set to release in United States theaters on April 26, 2024; however, the movie has shifted to an April 12, 2024, release date instead.

Had it opened on April 26, Civil War would have had to compete with Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers (which stars Zendaya, Mike Faist, and Josh O’Connor) and Richard Ramsey and Joel Smallbone’s Unsung Hero at the United States box office.

While Prime Video’s Fallout series also launches on April 12, the only other movie that’s now currently scheduled to release on the same day as Civil War is Shane Atkinson’s LaRoy starring John Magaro, Steve Zahn, and Dylan Baker.

What is Civil War about?

“In the near future, a team of journalists travel across the United States during a rapidly escalating civil war that has engulfed the entire nation, struggling to survive during a near-future where the government has become a dystopian dictatorship and partisan extremist militias regularly commit political violence,” the synopsis reads.

The movie stars Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Cailee Spaeny, Jesse Plemons, Nick Offerman, Karl Glusman, Sonoya Mizuno, and Jonica T. Gibbs.

Garland, who is known for 2015’s Ex Machina, 2018’s Annihilation, and 2022’s Men, both wrote and directed Civil War. He also has writing credits on 2002’s 28 Days Later, 2007’s Sunshine, 2010’s Never Let Me Go, and 2012’s Dredd.

Gregory Goodman, Andrew Macdonald, and Allon Reich serve as producers on the film. Civil War was previously rumored to have a runtime as long as 3 hours and 15 minutes; however, Variety confirmed in December 2023 that Civil War will be 109 minutes long.

Civil War releases in United States theaters on April 12, 2024, from A24.
