Louisiana mother Megan Parra was 29 years old at the time of her tragic death. Her parents, Steve and Missy Ducote, discovered her corpse on June 28, 2014, inside the living room of their house in Cottonport, Louisiana, and believed that her cause of death was suicide. However, seven years after the incident, authorities indicted Megan’s husband, Dustin Parra, after which he was charged with second-degree murder and obstruction of justice.
CBS News reported that Megan Parra died from a gunshot to the head. Officials charged Dustin Parra for his wife’s death for the first time in October 2021. Two years later, on March 24, 2023, a few days before his trial, his authority proposed a deal. Following this, Steve and Missy Ducote discussed with the district attorney and went ahead with the proposal.
According to the news outlet, Dustin confessed that he had a gun with him during a struggle with his wife. It went off, and the bullet struck Megan, which ultimately led to her death.
The January 6, 2024, episode of CBS 48 Hours showcased Megan Parra’s case in detail. According to the indictment Dustin Parra received in 2021. It further stated that “[Dustin] did intentionally discharge a firearm at or near Megan Parra with the intent to kill or commit great bodily harm.” Furthermore, he admitted his role in Megan’s death.
Dustin Parra was sentenced to five years in prison and is currently at the Dixon Correctional Institute. Megan’s father, Steve Ducote, stated, “To us, as a family, him admitting to that, that was huge.”
According to CBS News, Dustin will probably serve only 18 months in prison and the rest on parole.
