Who is Kordax in Aquaman 2?
Kordax is revealed to be the main villain of Aquaman 2 and he turns out to be the brother of King Atlan.
Holding the Black Trident, Orm was able to learn about Atlantean history which wasn’t present in the scriptures. He revealed that thousands of years ago, there used to be a 7th Kingdom of Necrus which King Atlan’s brother, Kordax, ruled. He governed from the Black City and grew powerful using the Orichalcum substance, which could have destroyed the planet.
When Atlan tried to stop him, Kordax wouldn’t listen to his reason. He forged a black trident using Dark Magic. Later he turned himself and all the people of his kingdom into monsters using dark magic. Soon after that, a war broke out between Atlan and Kordax.
Atlan managed to break his brother’s trident in half and put a blood curse on him. It froze Kordax and his entire kingdom and Atlan wiped out all evidence of their existence to keep him locked up. But when David Kane found the broken trident, he gained the powers and knowledge of Kordax who later began to possess him.
Who is Kordax in DC comics?
In the Detective Comics lore, Kordax is an Aquaman villain who was born centuries ago and was an outcast member of the Atlantean Royal Family.
Having an amphibian physiology and bright blonde hair, Kordax was considered to have a grotesque appearance. He could also communicate with marine life telepathically. Due to being abandoned, he swore vengeance upon the Atlanteans.
Kordax wasn’t King Atlan’s brother in the comics. Instead, his brother was Orin. But the DCEU amalgamated Orin and Kordax into one and gave him a new origin story. The comics also featured the “Curse of Kordax” which determined that any Atlantean born with blonde hair would be deformed. But instead of using the Curse of Kordax, the DCEU put a blood curse on Kordax.
Who plays Kordax in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom?
Game of Thrones and Hidden Strike actor Pilou Asbæk plays Kordax in Aquaman 2.
His cameo was brief as Kordax quickly donned a monstrous look on screen that’s closer to how he looks in the comics. But it was fun to see Pilou Asbæk play the King of the Black City after he played Euron Greyjoy, the King of the Sea-faring House in the Iron Islands, even if it is a short appearance.
