According to Deadline, D. Smith’s upcoming documentary film, Kokoma City, will be making its streaming and broadcast debut in early 2024 after over a year since it had its world premiere at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival.
The documentary follows the lives of four Black transgender women working in the sex industry in Atlanta and New York City. Kokoma City will be available for streaming on Paramount+ with Showtime on Friday, February 2. On the same day, it is also scheduled to air on the Showtime linear platform at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

“In the wildly entertaining and refreshingly unfiltered documentary, filmmaker D. Smith passes the mic to four Black transgender sex workers in Atlanta and New York City — Daniella Carter, Koko Da Doll, Liyah Mitchell and Dominique Silver — who unapologetically break down the walls of their profession,” reads the synopsis. “Holding nothing back, the film vibrates with energy, sex, challenge and hard-earned wisdom.”
Kokoma City marks the directorial debut of Smith, who also served as the writer, editor, and cinematographer for the project. The film is produced by Smith, Harris Doran, and Bill Butler, with Lena Waithe, Rishi Rajani, Stacy Barthe, and William Melillo serving as executive producers.
Following its Sundance premiere, the film won two awards including NEXT Audience Award and Next Innovator Award. It is currently nominated for Best Documentary at the upcoming Independent Spirit Awards. The documentary is also being considered one of the frontrunners to get a Best Documentary Feature nomination at the 2024 Oscars.
