Rebel Moon – Part One star Charlie Hunnam has revealed that he got quite far when he auditioned to play a major character in the Star Wars prequels.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight to promote the sci-fi movie Rebel Moon, Hunnam was asked about if he remembered auditioning for the role of Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones. The actor confirmed that he did try out for the part — which would end up going to Hayden Christensen — and that he made it far enough to meet series creator George Lucas.
“Years and years ago, I met George Lucas,” Hunnam revealed. “I got to the point where I was meeting George Lucas which … I don’t think he meets a lot of actors. I think it was maybe two, three actors they were considering. I don’t remember much about it. I remember that I was nervous, and I was a little bit awkward, and I just remember walking out and thinking, ‘Well, I’m definitely not getting that role,’ and I was correct.”
Christensen would win the role and go on to play Anakin Skywalker in Attack of the Clones and its sequel, Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, along with a voice cameo in Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker. Later, he would fully return to the role for the Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ahsoka.
What is Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire about?
“A peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy is threatened by the armies of a tyrannical regent named Balisarius,” reads the film’s synopsis. “The desperate civilians dispatch Kora, a young woman who has a mysterious past, to seek out warriors from nearby planets to help them challenge the regent.”
The film is now playing in limited theaters and will be released on Netflix on Thursday, December 21.
