Daddy Issues Cast: Aimee Lou Wood and David Morrissey To Play Father-Daughter Duo in New BBC Comedy

Sex Education’s Aimee Lou Wood and Sherwood’s David Morrissey are set to star in the new BBC comedy series Daddy Issues

Following an unexpected pregnancy, Gemma (Wood) had only one person in her life to lean on: her equally devastated dad, Malcolm (Morrissey). While Gemma’s life turns upside down due to a brief encounter that left her pregnant, Malcolm is also trying his best — to say the least — to put his life back together after a failed marriage.

With little to no knowledge about basic household chores, Malcolm decides to move out to Gemma’s flat to assist her with her current situation.

The logline for Daddy Issues reads: “At its heart ‘Daddy Issues’ is a classic odd couple comedy about two funny, deeply flawed characters, who just happen to be father and daughter. Along the way there will be dating disasters and failed romances, toxic friendships and messy family dynamics, plus a dangerously sociopathic antenatal teacher.”

Who else is involved in Daddy Issues?

Hailing from Brassic scribe Danielle Ward, who called both Wood and Morrissey her “dream cast,” Catherine Morshead (The Full Monty) and Damony Beesley (The Inbetweeners 2) join Ward as the show’s directors, while Fudge Park will produce Daddy Issues for BBC Three and iPlayer.

“I cannot wait for the world to meet Gemma and Malcolm, and I’m so grateful to the BBC for finally giving me my own series, 20 years after I lost the BBC New Comedy Awards. Aimee and David were my dream casting from the get-go and who ever gets their dream cast? It’s a total thrill to be working with such naturally funny and wildly talented actors,” said Ward (via Variety).

Apart from Wood and Morrissey, other cast members are yet to be announced.

No release date has been set yet for Daddy Issues.
