Who is Chris Hemsworth’s character and is he the villain of Furiosa?
Chris Hemsworth’s character isn’t Immortan Joe. He is playing a violent and charismatic warlord named Dementus. While Immortan Joe is the franchise villain, Furiosa’s primary antagonist is likely to be Dementus.
The fact that Hemsworth’s character is the antagonist was revealed when the cast of Furiosa was announced. While the CCXP teaser didn’t reveal much about the story of Furiosa or Dementus, the latter was seen facing off against a younger Immortan Joe.
To elaborate, Hemsworth also described his character to the audience during the Furiosa panel at CCXP. He said:
“He’s a complicated individual. He’s a very violent, insane, brutal person that is born from the Wasteland, which is the world the ‘Mad Max’ saga takes place in.”
He continued:
“He’s a product of his environment. He has been birthed into a space where it’s kill or be killed. He’s learned to rule with an iron fist. There’s a charisma to him and it’s a very manipulative charisma.”
We can expect Dementus to have multiple violent and bloody action sequences alongside Anya Taylor-Joy’s Furiosa.
Will Tom Hardy’s Mad Max return in the Furiosa Cast?
No, Tom Hardy’s Mad Max will not be a part of the Furiosa cast.
Since the film showcases Taylor-Joy as a younger version of Charlize Theron’s character from Mad Max: Fury Road, it’s likely that Tom Hardy’s Max would also be much younger in its timeline. So, if Max shows up, he should be played by a younger actor.
But, it’s more likely that he will not be appearing in the movie, unless there’s a tease for the Fury Road sequel, Mad Max: The Wasteland towards the end of the film. In that case, Tom Hardy could have a cameo in the post-credits scene. However, that isn’t confirmed yet.
As for the rest of the cast, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga stars Tom Burke, Alyla Browne, Quaden Bayles, Daniel Webber, and Lachy Hulme besides Taylor-Joy and Hemsworth.
