The series follows the story of Kim Ji-Yong, played by Nam Joo-Hyuk, and his version of vigilante justice. He is a sincere and hardworking police university student by day but turns into a vengeful vigilante at night. The drama premiered on November 8, 2023, and released two new episodes every week.
Episode 5 of Vigilante documented gory and intense scenes as the vigilante fought to deliver punishment to the criminals. However, detective Jo-Heon (Yoo Ji-Tae) has been tracking Kim Ji-Yong’s activities and finally catches up to him. Jo-Heon thinks Ji-Yong isn’t an honest police officer and labeled him a traitor because of his way of punishing people. In the end, Jo-Heon tries to kill the vigilante by strangling him. Viewers will have to wait and see if Ji-Yong comes out alive.
Yoo Ji-Tae attacks Nam Joo-Hyuk in Vigilante Episode 5
The episode begins with Kim Ji-Yong’s conversation with the fake vigilante Cho Kang-Ok (Lee Joon-Hyuk). The latter persists in collaborating with Ji-Yong. However, Ji-Yong asks him to clone Jo-Heon’s phone, and only then will he think about the collaboration. Ji-Yong had previously discovered that Kang-Ok cloned his phone. This time he uses the latter to his advantage by having the detective’s phone.
Meanwhile, reporter Choi Mi-Ryeo (Kim So-Jin) investigates Sewool Future Resources alongside fellow reporter Dae-Seok. They discover multiple illegal servers and QQ Coin, an alternative for cryptocurrency. However, a masked man with a knife appears, and as the reporters try to escape, he kills Dae-Seok. It turns out to be Mr. Bang, Sewool CEO Kim Sam-Doo’s man.
Choi Mi-Ryeo manages a last-minute escape and returns with the police only to discover that the servants are missing. Even Dae-Seok’s body is nowhere to be found. However, she has it all taped and decides to go public with the information. Meanwhile, Jo-Heon receives a call from Chief Superintendent General Eum Jae-Hyub, who asks him for updates on Vigilante. Jo-Heon asks Jae-Hyub to trust him with the investigation.
Ji-Yong receives Jo-Heon’s cloned phone and realizes the detective’s connection with Eun Jae-Hyub. At the same time, Choi Mi-Ryeo airs Sewool’s business in public, raising suspicions about actor Yoon Jae-Hak’s suicide in the previous episode. It turns out that the Vole backing Sewool and Kim Sam-Doo is Jae-Hyub.
Choi Mi-Ryeo faces an attack the following day, but Jo-Heon rescues her. He requests her to not entice vigilantes into making any more moves. He also uses the attacker to locate Kim Sam-Doo and his team’s hideout. Jo-Heon battles with the goons there and realizes that many dead bodies have been dumped there. The detective puts all the blame on Vigilante, and the news runs with it.
Another one of Kim Sam-Doo’s men, Choi Jun-Sik, who was charged with rape on multiple accounts, gets released. However, he proceeds to commit the same crime again, when Ji-Yong arrives. The vigilante murders him, and gains access to a ledger containing all of Kim Sam-Doo’s crimes. When this news goes public, Choi Mi-Ryeo and Cho Kang-Ok rejoice at the vigilante’s actions.
When news of Choi Jun-Sik reaches Kim Sam-Doo, the latter asks all of his other illegal businesses to shut down temporarily. He also wants all of the money in one place. On the other hand, Ji-Yong runs after discovering that Jo-Heon is following him. Eventually, the two meet when Jo-Heon asks the vigilante to stop his ways of punishment.
When Jo-Heon offers to lead Ji-Yong, the latter points out similarities between the two. Ji-Yong feels it’s pointless for the detective to lead him when they are the same people. The vigilante points to faults in the law, where the victims suffer more than the perpetrators. This marks the beginning of a debate between the two about the concept of justice.
In the end, it leads to a physical confrontation, where Jo-Heon calls Ji-Yong a traitor. He feels that the vigilante never did an honest job of punishing people, and begins to strangle him. Meanwhile, Kang-Ok watches from a distance.
