The Life of Chuck production wrap

Mike Flanagan Provides The Life of Chuck Update as Stephen King Movie Wraps Production

Mike Flanagan’s The Life of Chuck, which is an adaptation of a Stephen King short story, has wrapped production.

Flanagan announced on Twitter that The Life of Chuck — which stars Tom Hiddleston, Mark Hamill, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Karen Gillan, Jacob Tremblay, Matthew Lillard, Harvey Guillén, Rahul Kohli, and Heather Lagenkamp — has officially wrapped production.

Flanagan also provided an update about the upcoming film, saying, “This has been a tenacious little miracle of a movie from the start & I’m forever indebted to this wonderful cast and crew. This film is deeply special to me, and I’m elated that it’s going to exist in the world.

“It’s been a long time since I made something truly independent & it fed my soul to be back in the indie world where I started – especially here in Alabama, where we shot OCULUS, BEFORE I WAKE, HUSH and GERALD’S GAME.

“Our cast was an embarrassment of riches, our crew was small but fierce & the film itself is like nothing I’ve ever gotten to make, or will likely ever get to make again. I am in love with every frame & so grateful to every person who brought this slice of hope and joy to life.”

After thanking King, producer Trevor Macy, and production companies Intrepid Pictures and QWGmire, Flanagan concluded, “Now I’m back to LA to edit (cannot wait), and start the long road of expectation setting that THE LIFE OF CHUCK isn’t a horror movie. Profound thanks to the cast & crew, & to Foley, Fairhope, Daphne, Spanish Fort, Bay Minette, and Mobile for your hospitality. That’s a wrap!”

What is The Life of Chuck about?

“The film examines the existence of its subject Charles Krantz in reverse, beginning with his death aged 39 from a brain tumor and ending with his childhood in a house believed to be haunted,” reads the synopsis.

The Life of Chuck is one of four stories, all of which were written by King, collected in 2020’s If It Bleeds. Flanagan — who is widely known for his Netflix horror series, including 2023’s The Fall of the House of Usher, 2021’s Midnight Mass, and more — previously adapted King’s work when making 2017’s Gerald’s Game and 2019’s Doctor Sleep.

A release date for The Life of Chuck has not yet been set.
