The animation studio MAPPA has been trending lately all over social media channels such as Twitter and Reddit. Jujutsu Kaisen and anime fans have expressed concerns about the alleged MAPPA’s working conditions. Here is a guide on what is happening with MAPPA and if Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 production is delayed.
Why is MAPPA under fire?
MAPPA animators have expressed their discontent on Twitter with the alleged working conditions for the production of Jujutsu Kaisen season 2.
Shota Shigetsugu (@Hone_honeHONE), a key animator for two episodes, tweeted about the difficult schedule that’s almost impossible to meet on time. Shigetsugu also thought that the fact that Jujutsu Kaisen 0 was finished in four months would have contributed to the rushed production schedules. Apparently, the end result is what matters to the higher-ups, and they don’t think about the staff’s conditions.
Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 episode 16 director Itsuki Tsuchigami (@vflmsppe) reposted his previous tweets regarding the poor production schedule of the second season of Jujutsu Kaisen. Hakuyu Go (@hakuoishii), another animator, tweeted about throwing the company card key when leaving the office.
Other staff, such as Shunsuke Ohkubo (@wuokb) posted a vague tweet, which was a drawing of Ema Yasuhara from Shirobako. Meanwhile, Satoshi Sakai, who worked on Attack on Titan, tweeted their thoughts related to what’s happening with the Jujutsu Kaisen staff.
This is not the first time MAPPA has been under fire for poor working conditions. Many international fans have responded to the staff’s tweets, sending their love and support and thanking them for their hard work.
Twitter user @epppyyy posted a thread showing a brief rundown on the issue with MAPPA and its animators.
