We got you covered.

Here’s all we know about Midnight Mass Season 2 and whether or not it’s coming out.

Is there a Midnight Mass Season 2 release date?

There is no Midnight Mass Season 2 release date as the show was developed as a miniseries.

Mike Flanagan called Midnight Mass his passion project, for which he heavily drew from his Catholic upbringing, struggle for sobriety, and journey to atheism. As a concept, Midnight Mass has existed as a novel and film script, before taking the shape of a TV show. Initially, Flanagan had plans to make more than one season of Midnight Mass. Speaking to the Script Apart podcast, the series creator revealed that he originally wanted Riley Flynn, portrayed by Zach Gilford, to survive and become the primary antagonist in Season 2.

“It took years for me to realize that [Riley] had to get out of the way. That really broke things open in a huge way,” Flanagan explained. “We had done hints about a potential second season of the show, where Riley fights with the angel at the end, and you see him get his throat ripped open. You never see him die on screen. He came back as the antagonist of the second season, as this traveling preacher with a Southern Baptist revival tent. It was Warren and Leeza chasing him across America, trying to kill Riley, because he was now the villain of the story.”

Once Flanagan realized that Erin Greene, played by Kate Siegel, was the hero of the story, he was content with killing off almost all the islanders, effectively ending the series after one season. “All of that, and them singing ‘Nearer My God To Thee’, all of my favorite things about the end, never would have happened with Riley [living to the end], where we would have made a show about the triumph of atheism, which is not the show I wanted to make,” he added. “It’s the show I thought I wanted to make when I was in my 20s, but it wasn’t.”

The cast includes Kate Siegel as Erin Greene, Hamish Linklater as Father Paul Hill, Zach Gilford as Riley Flynn, Kristin Lehman as Annie Flynn, Samantha Sloyan as Bev Keane, Igby Rigney as Warren Flynn, Rahul Kohli as Sheriff Hassan, Annarah Cymone as Leeza Scarborough, Annabeth Gish as Dr. Sarah Gunning, Henry Thomas as Ed Flynn, and more.
