Where Is Candy Montgomery Now?

In the year 1980, a woman from Texas named Candy Montgomery was accused of murder. The victim’s name was Betty Gore. Gore was the wife of Candy’s lover, Allan Gore. The killing involved Betty receiving a total of 41 strikes with a wood-splitting axe. Even though, the case was highly publicized in the media, Candy did not go to prison.

Candy Montgomery is currently alive and aged 73. However, she moved from Texas to Georgia in the year 1980. Entertainment Weekly once reported that, after her divorce, she changed her surname to Wheeler. She continues living in Georgia where she and her daughter both work as mental health counselors.

Why did Candy Montgomery allegedly kill Betty Gore?

In the year 1977, Candy Montgomery and her family moved to Collin County, Texas. She was married to an electrical engineer named Pat Montgomery, and they had two children, a son and a daughter. The family was happy, and regularly attended the Methodist Church of Lucas. It is here where Candy was introduced to Betty and Allan Gore.

Just like the Montgomerys, the Gores also had two children. As time went by, Candy and Betty became close friends. However, little did Betty know that Candy and her husband were having an affair.

On June 13, 1980, Allan went out of town and tried to contact his wife via telephone. Unfortunately, no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t reach his wife. Gore’s neighbors soon discovered Betty’s corpse in her home.

Candy Montgomery was soon arrested for the alleged murder of Betty Gore. However, she pleaded not guilty to the murder because she said that she acted in self-defense. Candy furthermore claimed that she used the same axe to kill her alleged attacker that the latter was going to use on her.
