Rabbit Hole actor Kiefer Sutherland has been tapped to narrate John Lennon: Murder Without a Trial, an upcoming documentary series about the tragic and untimely death of The Beatles’ former member John Lennon.
Set to premiere on Apple TV+, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the actor will narrate the docuseries. It will present unseen materials associated with the 1980 murder of the singer, who was murdered by Mark David Chapman in New York City.
Sutherland has appeared in several films and television shows, including The Bay Boy, Young Guns, A Time to Kill, Designated Survivor, and The First Lady, among others. Though Sutherland has established himself as a renowned actor, the long-running television show 24 has catapulted his name to greater heights.
Murder Without a Trial will present never-before-seen materials
Coming over 50 years after The Beatles broke up — and over 40 years after Lennon’s senseless murder — the upcoming docuseries will revisit Lennon’s murder investigation and his murderer’s trial, who is reportedly still in prison. Chapman has also been denied parole numerous times.
Exclusive interviews from eyewitnesses as well as interviews from Chapman’s defense lawyers and psychiatrists will also appear on Murder Without a Trial. The docuseries also promises to present never-before-seen crime scene photos and interviews from those who knew Lennon before his death in 1980.
Murder Without a Trial is directed by Nick Holt and Rob Coldstream. David Glover, Mark Raphael, Simon Bunney, and Louis Lee Ray served as the Apple TV+ docuseries’ executive producers.
Before Murder Without a Trial, various documentaries and dramatized features about Lennon’s murder were released, though some were deemed controversial — especially Chapter 27, which starred Jared Leto as Lennon’s killer. The 2007 film, directed by Jarrett Schaefer, was not well received, with some critics calling it a “glorification” while others praised Leto’s “committed” performance.
No release date has been set yet for John Lennon: Murder Without a Trial.
