Developed by Steven S. DeKnight, Netflix’s Jupiter’s Legacy is a superhero series based on the namesake comic book series by Mark Millar and Frank Quitely. It tells the story of the members of the Sampson family. Sheldon Sampson, also known as the superhero The Utopian; his brother Walter Sampson / Brainwave; Grace Kennedy-Sampson / Lady Liberty, and others like them have kept the world safe for nearly a century by adhering to some simple principles. However, things begin to change when the new generation of heroes, including Sheldon and Grace’s children, realize that they might not be able to follow those principles.

Is there a Jupiter’s Legacy Season 2 release date?
There is no Jupiter’s Legacy Season 2 release date as the series was canceled after season 1.
The first season ends on a cliffhanger. Despite this, it was reported in early June 2021, four weeks after the premiere, that Netflix would not go forward with the series, and the cast members had been released from their contracts.
The reasons for cancellation were likely several. The series garnered a 38% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and there were budget-related issues. Netflix agreed to spend $9 million per episode for the development of the project, though DeKnight initially asked for $12 million per episode. Moreover, the show went over budget and was behind schedule during production, and DeKnight was replaced as showrunner with Sang Kyu Kim in November 2019.
Millar subsequently took to Twitter (now known as X) to address the issue. “I’m really proud of what the team achieved with Jupiter’s Legacy and the amazing work everyone did on that origin season,” he posted. “We’ve made the tough call of letting our incredible cast out of their show commitment as we continue to thoughtfully develop all realms of the Jupiter’s Legacy saga. We’re confident we’ll return to it later and just want to say thanks to you guys for your continued support and to the cast and crew who made this look so great.”
As Millar’s post suggests, there is a possibility, albeit minor, for the series to return in the future. Despite the cancellation of Jupiter’s Legacy, the “Millarworld” continues at Netflix with the release of the anime series Super Crooks, a prequel to the Supercrooks limited comic book series, and the upcoming live-action show based on the said comic books.
