The Exorcist: Believer Video Sees David Gordon Green Break Down the Movie’s Opening

A new video shared by Blumhouse Productions sees David Gordon Green break down the opening to The Exorcist: Believer.

Posted on Twitter, the video sees Green break down the film’s opening and how it loosely homages the introduction to 1973’s The Exorcist by director William Friedkin.

“We begin our movie in a beautiful Haitian community,” Green explains. “A trip between Victor and his wife, Sorenne. One of the things I love about the original Exorcist is that it starts in this exotic locale. It’s captivating. it’s mysterious.”

What is The Exorcist: Believer about?

“Since the death of his pregnant wife in a Haitian earthquake 12 years ago, Victor Fielding (Tony winner and Oscar® nominee Leslie Odom, Jr.; One Night in Miami, Hamilton) has raised their daughter, Angela (Lidya Jewett, Good Girls) on his own,” the official synopsis reads. “But when Angela and her friend Katherine (newcomer Olivia O’Neill), disappear in the woods, only to return three days later with no memory of what happened to them, it unleashes a chain of events that will force Victor to confront the nadir of evil and, in his terror and desperation, seek out the only person alive who has witnessed anything like it before: Chris MacNeil.”

In addition to directing, Green co-wrote the screenplay for The Exorcist: Believer with Peter Sattler. Also starring in the movie are Ann Dowd, Jennifer Nettles, Norbert Leo Butz, Olivia Marcum, and Ellen Burstyn. Jason Blum, David C. Robinson, and James G. Robinson serve as producers.

Green and Blumhouse’s The Exorcist: Believer is intended to kick off a new trilogy of Exorcist films, with the second, The Exorcist: Deceiver, currently scheduled to be released on April 18, 2025.

The Exorcist: Believer is now playing in United States theaters.
